Vitamin A

Nutritional facts

Vitamin A is a liposoluble vitamin, fundamental for the good health of the skin and mucous membranes which aids the healing of wounds and controls the function of vision (prevents night blindness and glaucoma).

It boosts our immune system and prevents infections (especially respiratory ones), and is necessary for the correct development of the nervous system.

One of its forms, beta-carotene, is a very important antioxidant for the prevention of certain diseases such as cancer. Vitamin A is essential for harmonious growth of the body and has an anti-ageing effect on the skin (maintains hydration and elasticity). It also prevents cholesterol and arteriosclerosis.

On the other hand, vitamin A raises fertility (masculine and feminine) by intervening in the formation of steroids and in the synthesis of progesterone. It is essential in order to keep cartilages, bones and teeth in a healthy state.

In relation to babies, supplies of the vitamin are essential for their appropriate cerebral development, for the formation of nervous tissue and for suitable growth.

In cold climates it is necessary to ingest more foods containing vitamin A.

A lack of vitamin A manifests itself in dry skin and hair, fragile nails, blurred vision, retarded growth and repetitive infections.
