Fats

Nutritional facts

The fats (also called lipids) are one of the principal sources of energy for the body (together with carbohydrates), one of the essential nutrients, and they perform functions necessary for the human body such as the transport of vitamins (A, D, E and K) to the cells and the formation of the cellular membranes. Among the fats we can distinguish between unsaturated fats (the healthiest, such as Omega 3 which is found in fish and vegetables) and the saturated fats (principally of animal origin).

An adequate consumption of unsaturated fats reduces the risk of suffering when it comes to many illnesses, such as those of the cardiovascular type, and reduces the levels of cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood whilst regulating blood pressure at the same time.

The consumption of saturated fats (fundamentally present in meat) is necessary to obtain the correct functioning of the body, but in limited form so as not to raise the levels of cholesterol in the blood and the consequent risk of cardiovascular disease.
