Water


Nutritional facts

This is the principal component of our body (represents two thirds of our body by weight), which is essential for life. In order that our body functions adequately we need approximately 2 litres of water a day.

Water is the medium in which all the liquids of the body are dissolved, transporting nutrients to the interior of the cells and carrying away the waste products. It facilitates digestion and maintains body temperature.

The intake of water should be increased in specific circumstances to avoid dehydration, such as when participating in physical activity, during breast feeding/nursing, when ambient temperatures are high, or after instances of vomiting or diarrhoea.
